Special Wastes
Simply put, a special waste is any solid waste that is not typically regulated as hazardous but because of its quantity, concentration, physical and/or chemical characteristics, or biological properties. However, these wastes require special handling and disposal to protect human health and the environment. Also note that before an item is considered a solid waste it must meet the criteria listed on the “What is a Hazardous Waste” fact sheet.
