Please note that the invitation for our annual Holiday Social has been included in the Fall 2016 special edition of the Learning Times. Please mark your calendar. And don't forget to RSVP. Hope to see you there!
Special Edition of the Newsletter
Effective beginning in October 2016, a special edition of the Learning Times will be produced in the fall and spring of each year. The first edition should appear in your mailbox in late October. The online version can be found by opening the Newsletter link in the menu above. Some topics of interest include plans for celebrating the 25th anniversary of our Learning in Retirement organization, an invitation to the LIR Holiday Social, information about our next Know B4 You Go meeting, and information about a class that LIR will offer to aid in keeping your home computer network secure. Sounds like an interesting read!
If you enjoy playing Pitch or would like to learn how to play, join our new Pitch club. The group meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on the LU campus, in Soldier's Hall Room 8.
If you are an LIR member and have not received the latest Newsletter, or if you are not a member and would like to join our organization, please contact the LIR office. You can reach the office by phone at 573 681-6152, Monday through Thursday between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The annual $40 membership fee for existing members is due in January and covers the entire calendar year, January through December. First time members who join LIR after June 30th will be assessed a $25 fee which will cover membership through the end of the current year.
Membership information is available on this website and within the bi-annual newsletter, The Learning Times.
Just a reminder of our weather related cancellation policy. Please note that the policy regarding LIR trips is different than the policy for meetings, clubs and classes.
Cancellations-Inclement Weather Policy: LIR membership meetings, classes and clubs will be cancelled due to snow or other inclement weather conditions if the Jefferson City Public Schools are not in session (weather related). Local radio and television stations that allow community cancellations will be notified along with one or more of the following: a posting on the LIR website; an "ALERT" group email to all members with email address; and/or a call tree. Education Travel trip cancellations occur ONLY when the contracted coach company cancels the trip due to their determination of highway safety. Travelers are contacted individually should a cancellation occur.
The winter (January) general membership meeting is scheduled with a make-up date, typically the same day/time during the following week at the same location. Length and content of meeting will be adjusted to accommodate the make-up situation. In the event that a second weather related cancellation occurs for the membership meeting, a business meeting ONLY will be held within one week of the cancelled meeting. Place & time to be determined.
Lincoln University parking permits for LIR members are available at the LIR office. The permits are valid for parking on the Soldiers Hall parking lot but are not needed when parking at the South Campus building at 900 Leslie Boulevard. The permits are valid between September 1 and August 31, with a new permit required each year beginning in September.
The following information is needed to obtain a parking permit: vehicle make, model, color, and license plate number, and your driver's license number. Cost of the permit is $10.
